4. Research Internship

Institute participants are both students and interns, maximizing knowledge through application in the real world. Each participant applies to 1 of our 4 Featured Programs, attends 7 weekly classes in sustainability and applicable skills, designs and executes his or her own self-directed project, and works with an experienced faculty member in the role of a research assistant.

Part 2: Participate in Sustainability & Skills Workshops

Every participant attends 7 hours weekly of lectures and skills workshops, including 1 hour in each of the other 3 Featured Courses, plus Cooking, Building, and Business Development. We believe this creates a more multidisciplinary understanding of sustainability and teaches hard skills that can be applied in life.

Part 3: Create & Execute Your Own Self-Directed Study

Every student has to identify a need, design a research project, learn project management to achieve milestones over the 10-week semester, and give a final presentation of their findings as the capstone to their time at the institute.

Part 4: Research Assistant to Faculty-Led Project

Finally, participants are able to learn from our experienced faculty by working as research assistants in 1 of 4 faculty-led projects each semester that can range from field studies that will be submitted for publication in scientific journals to business plans to launch new companies to dliever needed products and jobs.
