After several failed attempts at getting the printer to work, I recruited Lillian to make 16 BINGO cards with me for the English class on Tuesday. Lillian and I cut out 16 different items from construction paper and made our own BINGO cards that would serve as an educational tool to gage the children’s knowledge before I started lesson planning for the younger children. The BINGO cards turned out amazing and were a huge success. We used the BINGO cards for ages 5-14 and it was an interactive way for the children to learn a variety of English words; including colors, numbers, animals, fruit and body parts. First we explained what each item on the BINGO board was, in both English and Spanish. We also used descriptive words, such as what color each item was to create sentences in English. Following we played several rounds of BINGO where we said the word in English and the children had to match the word to the picture on their BINGO board. Using both hearing and sight in an interactive games was a great way for the children to learn and stay engaged. I think BINGO will be a fun, interactive tool to use in the classroom when teaching the children new vocabulary words. After we teach and have them write the words for the week, for example English words about the body, we can create a BINGO board with pictures of the body part. This will allow the children to write, hear, see and speak the words in English.
