San Miguel is a beautiful, small town in a sub-tropical rainforest. There’s a whole diverse group of plant and animal species, mountains in the background, and a river running through town. The river, Rio Pacora, really adds a special touch to San Miguel because it’s the perfect place to swim, hike around, eat lunch, or just sit next to and enjoy the outdoors. The current flows pretty quickly and rocks of all sizes jut out of the water and make mini waterfalls. At first the water feels chilly, but once you get in, it is very refreshing.
The river running through San Miguel is the same river that runs through the valley property, Rio Iguana. Considering the popularity of the river in San Miguel, it can only be assumed the river will have that much success in the valley!
One thing about the river in San Miguel is the amount of trash that lines the edge of it. Though there have been efforts to pick up the litter and keep it clean, the townspeople continue filling the street edges and river edge with trash. This will be an important factor to consider for the future residents in the valley, and hopefully an inspiration to the people in San Miguel. The beauty of the river and it’s fresh, crystal clear water should be respected by the community. I believe Kalu Yala will contribute to this goal through their Community Outreach and Education programs, and through the success of the future community in the valley.
