Kalu Yala has been on my mind since I applied to the Education Internship and was accepted. The curiosity and anticipation from packing my belongings to where I would be sleeping has ceased. We (the interns) have arrived in Panama City and begun to learn about the company and its beliefs. Orientation has given me a much better understanding of Kalu Yala and its expectations for the interns. I feel that with our group programs and individual projects, each one of us will be making an impact in Panama.
The orientation sessions have taught the interns the importance of community, local businesses, wellness and sustainability. The combination of these factors has helped shape the beliefs of Kalu Yala. I feel confident that through this experience I will better understand these topics and take this knowledge with me wherever I go in the world. I look forward to observing how these factors are implemented as The Valley is built and begins to grow.
This week the interns will travel to San Miguel and meet the community. I am most excited about becoming involved in the school and the children. I also look forward to continuing the soccer program that intern, Lily Binner, started in the summer. Each day will bring new challenges and obstacles that we (the interns) will overcome.
